About anshare

anshare is a leather goods brand from Okinawa.

We make leather goods using a combination of Italian leather, carefully selected domestic cowhide, and solid brass hardware.

In addition to small accessories such as wallets and key cases, we also make larger items such as bags.
Everything from design to production and finishing is carried out entirely in our own workshop.

Also, at the atelier shop near Kokusai Street in Naha City, you can shop while watching the actual production process.

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

The origins of anshare

anshare quietly started in 2008 in a traditional old house in Oroku, Naha City.

Products were not sold at this old traditional house.

Here, you'll find “CraftspeopleI selected items made by ” and ran an online shop.

After that, through repeated trial and error such as participating in Okinawa product fairs outside the prefecture and opening a retail store in Yaese Town, the current store came to be.Ukishima StreetSettled on.

Amid all that trial and error,I want to experience a craftsman's workThat was what led the owner to start making leather goods, and later the shop shifted from a select shop to a leather goods store.

The first leather item I made

Actually, rather than major items like wallets and bagsCamera Strapwas the first leather product.

Since photography had already been a hobby of mine, I wanted to make a leather camera strap, and this became my first leather product.

Leather camera straps are durable and become more comfortable the more you use them, with the color changing over time as they age. I came to realize that leather is not just long-lasting, but also a fascinating material that develops character over time.

After that, if I was satisfied with the finished result, I began displaying my handmade leather goods in the shop alongside items by other artisans.

As I became absorbed in creating leatherwork, new products kept emerging one after another, and before I knew it, the shop wasAs our original handmade items gradually outnumbered our curated products, anshare was born as a leather goods maker.

Starting out as complete beginners, we gradually improved the quality of our products as we built up our knowledge and skills, and now we can proudly recommend our products to customers with confidence in our craftsmanship.

Whether you're a customer encountering anshare leather products for the first time in our store, or someone who has come to know anshare’s history through this article you're reading now, we would be delighted if our thoughts and passion reach you.

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

The origin of the name "anshare"

In Okinawan dialect, "Anshe~yaThere is a greeting that goes, "

This greeting is "See you tomorrow.means.”

This greeting is only used between close acquaintances, and “Let's both stay well and meet again. This reflects the sentiment,

From the ideal of wanting customers and staff to build the kind of relationship where they can exchange greetings like that, ansheyaas a play on "anshare" was the name we chose.

What We Value

Our staff values putting customers first.

Not just creating products, but actuallyImages used by customersWe put our hearts into the production process.

When creating something newTo solve your problemHow should I design it better,To make it easier to useWe always strive to create products with the customer at the center, thinking about how the design could be improved in ways like this.

In addition, by having our artisans assist customers directly, we make it possible for your questions and feedback to be conveyed straight to them. The History of Ukishima Street

During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, Naha was called "Ukishima" ("floating island") because it was an island floating in the bay. After the war, what is now Ukishima Street came into being, named after Naha's first hotel, which was called "Ukishima."

The name was given only 50 years ago, so its history is relatively short. Since then, hardware stores, barbershops, shoe stores, and pharmacies opened there, and it developed as a commercial district.

Today, it is bustling with locals and tourists alike, drawn by fashion, gourmet food, and nearby public markets.

Anshare is a shop renovated from what was originally a dry cleaner, and its timeworn appearance is बेहद unique. It's also recommended to take a stroll while imagining what the place was like back then.

About the leather used

Leather used for small items such as wallets and key cases

Name: “AMAZZONIA / Amazzonia”
Maker: La Perla Azzurra / La Perla Azzurra (Italy)
Tanning: Vegetable-tanned (vacchetta method)
Dyeing: Dyed finish, core-dyed
Finish: Shrink processing, pull-up processing

This is a shoulder leather made byLa Perla Azzurra, a company in the Santa Croce region of Italy, and is characterized by its pull-up effect.

After applying wax to the shrink-processed, grained leather, it is pressed during the backing process, giving the surface a subtle grain-like appearance.

Its look combines a deep, substantial presence with an elegant feel, and is loved across generations.

This leather is vegetable-tanned, dye-finished, and made using the vacchetta method, which gives it plenty of oil. The more you use it, the richer the color becomes and the more natural shine it develops. It is a leather you can fully enjoy for its aging process.

Amazzonia:camel difference between new and after 2.5 years of use

What is pull-up leather?

Leather that has been thoroughly soaked in oil, drum-processed for several hours, and then treated so the oil penetrates deeply.

When the leather is bent or pulled,
the oil inside moves through the fibers and changes the color of the leather surface.

How the color changes at the bent areas

Because the oil is absorbed over time, it feels supple, and the more you use it, the softer it becomes and the more it fits comfortably in your hand.
The aging process, with its deepening color and growing shine, is also very appealing.

Since it contains a large amount of oil,
daily care only requires simple brushing.

Personalization for the product

The world's only special product

At anshare, it is possible to add a name to the leather product you choose.

Name engraving using a branding pen

Using a tool called a 'branding pen' with a tip heated to nearly 400°C, letters are burned onto the surface of the leather.

※ Only English letters are supported. Only English letters can be entered

If you wish to have a name engraved, please fill in the "Name engraving requests or remarks" section in the cart. Please provide detailed information.

Example) If you wish to have the name "anshare" engraved

※ Please specify uppercase and lowercase letters exactly.
